Drive Better, Drive Safer with Honda Sensing
As drivers, we must stay constantly aware of our surroundings while keeping our vehicle in control. However, it’s not always possible to react in time to the endless distractions and sudden dangers that can occur on the road. Electronic safety systems have become increasingly advanced over the years, allowing everyone on the road to be safer.
Honda has been at the forefront of implementing innovative and highly effective electronic safety systems that help with everything from mitigating collisions to staying in your lane. Below we look at some of the key features of the Honda Sensing suite, available in models such as the CR-V.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Traditional cruise control systems simply kept your car travelling at the speed you set, while more advanced ones adjust the throttle to compensate for slopes and maintain the chosen speed. However, if you approached a car, you would have to brake to deactivate the cruise control to avoid driving into the car ahead.
Using a front-mounted camera and radar system, Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) can adjust the cruising speed so that a safe gap is maintained. When the vehicle ahead moves out of the way, the system brings the cruising speed back up to what was set.
The Low Speed Follow makes the ACC better by adjusting the speed right down to zero, so if the car in front slows down and stops, your car will also stop behind it. Once it moves off, your car will also start moving again. This means the driver doesn’t have to do anything other than steer when needed.
orward Collision Warning
Even perfect drivers can’t account for sudden actions other road users can sometimes make. Forward Collision Warning is an automated system that offers a second set of eyes. If your vehicle senses a possibility of a collision occurring, it will begin sounding a series of warnings. If the driver fails to take action quickly enough, the vehicle automatically brakes.
Collision Mitigation Braking System
Like the rest of the Honda Sensing features, the Collision Mitigation Braking System works by sensing the vehicle ahead and automatically applying strong braking and a tug of the seatbelt in order to protect occupants. It’s designed to reduce the likelihood or severity of a frontal impact.
